Technical Info

Panda Bamboo is finished with a highly durable and anti-scratch topcoat by "Klumpp", a German varnish, which has an aluminium oxide coating. All adhesives used are by Dyno of Norway and are formaldehyde-free, which conforms to EU regulations. All cutting work is by the German Wenig molder, which is the most advanced and precise molder to work on floorings.

Methods of laying Panda Bamboo Flooring
The floor area that is going to be covered must be level, clean and dry, check moisture levels on newly laid concrete floors. Make sure that there are no particles left in this area. Bamboo is a natural product and as such needs to be put in the area that it is to lay for 7 days to acclimatise.

This acclimatisation should involve unpacking and stacking the product and ensuring it receives plenty of ventillation. Ideally, it should be subjected to periods of both warm and cool temperatures, the former in the daytime (by leaving a window open) and the latter at night (via central heating).

If unsure of any of the above please call us on 0116 2414816 for further advice.
There may be slight variations in colour so it is advisable to check and sort so that any difference in the shades may be put together.

Floating Floor System

This is the most common method of laying Bamboo Flooring. It entails laying the bamboo over a membrane or an underfelt soundproofing. We recommend Timbertech Contract Gold. This acts as a support & cushioning, noise absorbent, and a moisture barrier. Other underlays or membranes can be bought from most of the DIY sheds. Once you have made sure that the floor is clean, dry, level, and has been fully acclimatised, and you have laid out your choice of underlay, you are ready to glue the tongue and groove sections of the board, do not glue the underside of the board. For best results a rubber-based glue is recommended, or if unavailable, a PVA glue such as Evo-stik waterproof adhesive will be sufficient. Usually the boards are laid along the length of the room towards the natural light.

Screw Down Method
Screwing the floorboards onto battens or onto a wooden sub-base of cross-ply board (minimum 6-10mm) is another popular method of laying Panda Bamboo Flooring. Once you have established a perfect laying surface you are ready to lay the bamboo boards. We recommend drilling holes at 45 degree angles through the tongue part of the board. This should be done on every third row of the bamboo board and using stainless steel screws (three per board will be sufficient). The bamboo boards should be glued down onto the base-board using either SikaBond T54 or Marldon MXA200 adhesive. This can also be applied to the tongue and groove part of the boards for extra sealing if required. On both of the above methods we recommend leaving an expansion gap of 7-10 mm.

Underfloor Heating
Certain types of bamboo is suitable for laying onto a floor that has underfloor heating, using the screw down method above. We recommend laying battens with a sub-base floor of cross-ply (minimum 6-10mm). Please call us for details of which type of bamboo to use.

When switching on the underfloor heating, the heat should be introduced at a very low temperature and increased gradually over a six to eight week period.

Maintenance of Panda Flooring
Vacuum any loose dust particles or grit from the floor, then wipe with a damp cloth or mop. A quick final wipe with a shammy leather or similar type mop to remove smires. No need to polish.
